I decided that it was time to up-date my blog, since it has been almost a month since I last did -- wouldn't you all agree?! This post should already be written by now, but I haven't had much time to blog recently. This post is about 10 things that I'm looking forward (or maybe already working towards) doing this new year.

1. Finish a 90 day reading plan. You read the Bible in 90 days, averaging about 12 chapters a day. I cannot say how much this plan has really benefited me! I have learned so many new things, that I never noticed before. Also, it is really neat to find verses that I memorized for the Bible Bee! One of my favorites that I recently read was Exodus 34:1-16 (I memorized all but verse 11....wonder why they didn't put that one in!)

2. Memorize 2500 verses. Which would consist of the books in the NT that are 6 chapters and shorter, 2012 Bible Bee passages, 2010 Bible Bee passages, and also start on the 2009 passages from the Bible Bee.

3. Journal regularly...it's something I'm terrible at, but truly do want to improve this year! It neat to read back through my journal, and see how the Lord has been working in my life.

4. Participate in the 2012 Bible Bee! Anyone else want to? =)

5. Read several books. [Some of my siblings might be thinking "only several??] I enjoy reading, but finding good books is another thing :) I have started on "The Holiness of God", but haven't thought of any others to read. Any suggestions?

6. Get my drivers permit! I just need to read the drivers manual now...

7. Practice more faithfully on the piano and start on learning the flute. During the Bible Bee season, I hardly practiced at all, and now it's showing through =)

8. Finish the science I'm doing for 10th grade and start on Chemistry. This is a must, but it's also something I'm really looking forward to. Some in my family say it hard; others say it's fun!

9. Work more on photography. My interest in photography has been growing recently, and it's something I'd definitely like to get better at.

10. Write more poems.

Update: National Bible Bee

The scores for Nationals were posted Wednesday evening; so now we all know what place we came in! I knew that I hadn't done the best, so I wasn't *that* excited to receive them, but my brother and sister were sure excited =)

My dad started to scroll through the list and the scores kept getting lower and lower...until we came across my ID number (that's how you tell what place you came in) and read "76th place"...with an end score of 666 out of 900 points - which isn't the best at all!

My score was low, but what truly matters is that I have treasured up God's Word in my heart!

Indeed, I have counted everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For His sake, I have suffered the loss of all things and count them as rubbish in order that I may gain Christ. ~ Philippians 3:8

2011 National Bible Bee

Well, the time has come to share with you all about my time at the National Bible Bee! I will do my best at sharing the news with you all!

We arrived in Nashville, Wednesday afternoon. You can't imagine our excitement when we saw the hotel that was going to be our "home away from home" for the next 4 days! That afternoon, we unpacked, reviewed some verses, registered and got to meet lots of people! I had the opportunity to meet some other Bible Bee contestants who I had gotten to know through the summer, but never had the opportunity to meet until then.

Thursday morning before our preliminary rounds, I reviewed verses with my mom. I cannot thank her enough for all the time that she spent this summer reviewing my verses with me...thank you, Mommy! A little later, I headed downstairs to get on with the big test which consisted of 200 questions, with only 1 hour to complete...talk about intense! Thankfully, the test went very smoothly, and easier than I thought it would go. After that, was oral rounds, which I was feeling very confident about (very nervous, but confident because I knew all my verses). You have 10 minutes to quote 25 passages (the longest one I had was 11 verses!), and I got through the first 15 or so very well. On the next one, though, I drew a complete blank. I stumbled through it, asking for three whole prompts. Later, I found out that I had not even been asked my last four passages because I had run out of time. I spent the rest of the morning talking with other Senior contestants and anxiously waiting for the Opening Ceremony later that evening...where the Semi-finalists would be announced.

At 5:45 we headed downstairs, to prepare for the Opening Ceremony. (Note - at Nationals, you always have to head downstairs *really* early, if you want to arrive at anything on time, since the elevators are always packed! But that is completely different story...) At 7:00 PM, the Seniors filed, one by one, down the aisle to the front stage. Once the Seniors, Juniors and Primaries had all received their medals, we eagerly awaited to hear who the Semi-finalists would be. I was kind of not expecting to make it, when I found out that I didn't finish all my passages in the oral round, but was still disappointed when I found out that I had not made it. We were all SO thrilled, when David, my awesome little 10 year old brother, was called to the front, as one of the Primary Semi-finalists!

Friday, I attended the Primary, Junior and Senior Semi-Finals. It was so amazing listening to so much Scripture being quoted in one day! We found out that my little brother had also advanced on to the Finals! The rest of the day went way to fast with talking with other contestants, spending time with my family, being excited for my little brother [wink, wink] and a few other activities.

Saturday morning, we watched eagerly in our chairs, while the five Primary finalists arrived on the stage. For 1 hour and 10 minutes, we watched those children stand up and quote verses that they had learned through the summer. The winners were announced in the end...and we found out that David came in 4th place!

Although I did not make it to Semi-finals or Finals, I'm so thankful to the Lord for allowing me to be apart of the Bible Bee, this summer. It truly was an amazing experience, and I'm already looking forward to next year! The verse that my dad brought to my mind was 1 Thessalonians 5:18 - "give thanks in every circumstance, for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you". Whether you make it to the Semi-finals or not, we are to give thanks! And I'm giving thanks to the Lord this day for this summer that I could memorize, meditate and study God's Word!

This summer, a site I found very helpful in keeping my passages reviewed was Memverse. You can set up an account and add any Bible passages you want, to keep reviewed. I found it extremely helpful, and would recommend it to anyone who wishes to keep passages that they have memorized reviewed instead of forgotten :)

recent happenings...

Has it really been a month and a day since I last blogged? *gasp* I believe it has been, which means it's time to write a new post! I don't have any pictures to share, since there hasn't been much time for photography recently [smile] So, instead, I thought I would just give you a quick update in what has been going on in my life...

1. Reviewing verses, reviewing verses and reviewing verses some more! With Nationals less than 1 and 1/2 weeks away (did I mention that the energy level around our house has been quite high recently?!) we've been trying to get lots of studying in!

2. Studying 1 and 2 Peter. I can't explain to you all, how much I have benefited from this study of these two books. I have learned so many new things that I never knew before!

3. School. Although I don't spend to much time on each day, I still do some math, science and history. I am looking forward to when the Bible Bee is over, and I can spend a full day on my school subjects. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy the Bible Bee immensely...

4. Practicing the piano! I have found time to squeeze piano playing in :) I've enjoyed learning some Scripture songs that my family knows.

5. Doing the "Thankful Challenge" hosted by Sarah Lee Bryant [author of King's Blooming Rose] It has been such a blessing to daily think about things that I'm thankful for!

6. Meditating on different Scripture passages. I've been thinking a lot about Psalm 84 a lot recently; it is such an encouraging Psalm! I would really encourage you all to read it, when you have some time!

7. Watching as my youngest sister grow up. Today, she has started to say "I love you!" It is *so* precious and cute! I forgot to mention, that her birthday was 6 days ago, and now she is 2!

8. Enjoying this beautiful weather! The weather has been gorgeous recently....red, orange and yellow leaves, crisp air, fluffy clouds....God's creation is amazing, isn't it?!

Well, there is a short list of things that I've been doing recently. I probably won't be able to post anything again before our trip, so my next post might be about Nationals...maybe even with pictures!

The Bible Bee

Finally, I have some time to post! I know, this blog has been sadly neglected recently due to being so busy. Hopefully, I will be updating it more frequently now.

The Bible Bee. That is has been keeping me so busy, and no, I'm not complainingabout it in the least. In fact, I'm doing quite the opposite--I'm rejoicing that I had the opportunity to be a part of it. The Bible Bee has been such a profitable way to spend my summer through memorizing hundreds of verses from God's precious Word, meditating on different passages of Scripture and studying the book of 1 Peter in-depth; and, most importantly, growing closer to my Lord.

But...the work is not over! By the grace of God, I found out that I qualified to go to Nationals! This means I will continue learning new verses and begin studying the book of 2 Peter in-depth (and reviewing the verses that I already learned and the book of 1 Peter!). I am very thankful to the Lord that has let me move on in the Bible Bee. Truly, this has been such a wonderful opportunity for so many young people across the nation to study and learn God's Word...and to grow closer to Him.

"For the Word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword. Piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, or joints and of marrow and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart" - Hebrews 4:12

This past summer, I found this verse to be so true. God's Word is living, it is powerful, and it is sharper than any two-edged sword. The verses that I learned this past summer have challenged me so much in my faith. Many were convicting, many were encouraging; but I know that all of them were living and active.

So, before I end this post, I would encourage you all to find a passage of Scripture and memorize it! It will take time and it will take work...but I encourage you to do it. You will reap so many rewards from memorizing God's Word!

Vegetable Confetti | The Recipe

Want a very yummy and healthy recipe? If so, this is for you! It will take very little time to make...and you will enjoy it a lot!

Ingredients:
* 4 small tomatoes
* Half an onion
* Half of a good-sized pepper
* An Avocado (optional)
* 1 can of black beans
* 1 can of corn (some times it will take 2 cans if you want it to go farther)
* 1/3 cup Italian salad-dressing

How to make:
1. Cut up the tomatoes, onion, pepper and avocado in small, bite-size pieces and put them in a bowl. Combine the black beans and corn with the other ingredients.
2. Pour salad dressing over top and mix well. Chill in the refrigerator.
3. Enjoy!

One Year...

Can it really be 1 year since I started blogging? [gasp] It has, even though it's hard to believe. July 9th of last year was my first blog post on this blog...(notice, I'm a few days behind writing this!). Since last year, I've made many wonderful friends through blogging...friends I'm very thankful for.

Since I've been blogging for a year, I'd really like to find out how many people read my little blog on the web. On this post, I'd really like if you all would share:

An afternoon snack...

Daniel 6:20-22

Recently, I have been memorizing verses in the minor prophets. It has been a challenge, but I'm continuing through with it. As I was memorizing Daniel 6:20-22, I came across two interesting things...which I thought I would share with you all.

"As he came near to the den where Daniel was, he cried out in a tone of anguish. The king declared to Daniel, "O Daniel, servant of the living God, has your God, whom you serve continually, been able to deliver you from the lions?" - Daniel 6:20

First, Nebuchadnezzar comes to the den where Daniel was and asks if Daniel's God, who he served continually, had saved him. Think about that phrase "whom you serve continually". Are we serving God continually? If people looked at us, would they see people that "serve God continually"? If someone came up and asked someone else who they would describe us, would they be able to truthfully say that we "serve God continually"? It should be. We should be striving towards that end...of serving God continually. Let that be the prayer of our hearts...that we are serving God continually. Not to look good to men, but that we truly would be serving God at all times.

Second, think about this phrase that is in that verse "Has you God....been able to deliver you from the lions?" The king didn't know, he really didn't. Notice that early in the verse he "cried out in a tone of anguish". The king was afraid that Daniel had been killed by those lions. He was scared. But, God can do anything...and He saved Daniel from the lions. Our God, can do EVERYTHING! Think about it...God can do everything! Even if it is saving someone from the lions mouths. We serve an awesome God.

Someone suggested on this post that I tell some things about myself...so I thought I would.

1. I am SO glad that I'm participating the the Bible Bee this year...and hope to do it more years! Memory is being a little tough, but that's okay. The study of 1 Peter is being quite interesting, and I hope to post about what I'm learning soon.

2. I have never been to the beach before, but I would like to one day; either in California or Florida. Actually, I was there once when I was a lot younger, but I don't remember it at all.

3. I really like the smell of coffee, but I cannot stand how it tastes. I had one spoonful once, and it was not enjoyed.

4. My favorite books of the Bible are probably Proverbs, James and 1 Peter. One of my favorite verses that I memorized is this: "Only fear the Lord and serve him faithfully with all your heart, for consider what great things he has done for you." -1 Samuel 12:24

5. I don't like writing with pens, I much prefer a pencil. Personally, I think it hard to write with a pen.

6. I really enjoy writing poems, and I might post some in the near future. I have started so many, but only finished a few.

Soft Taco Casserole | The Recipe

Want a delicious, mouth-watering meal? I'm sure you do! [This recipe was made up by my mom! Believe me, it's wonderful!]

Ingredients:

* 1/2 pound of ground beef
* 2 T Taco seasoning
* 1 can mexican style tomatos
* 1 can cream of chicken soup
* Vegetables....such as: [which equals up to about 1 and 1/2 cans total
* Black Beans
* Pinto Beans
* Peas
* Corn
* 2 cups rice
* Flour Tortillas [about 10 or so]
* Shredded Cheese

Instructions:

* Mix the ground beef, taco seasoning, tomatos, cream of chicken soup and vegetables together in a skillet. Heat thoroughly.

* Layer the flour tortillas, meat mixture and cheese.

*Heat in the oven, at 375, for about 25 minutes; or in the microwave for about 4 minutes.

Life...

I know, my blog has been sadly forgotten. But I thought this afternoon would be a wonderful time to update my little place on the web [grin]. Life has been pretty busy with all different things...the regulars like laundry, cleaning and many other things around our house. I'd thought I would share a few pictures just to let you see what I've been up to...

Memorizing 13 verses a day is a lot of work...but definitely worth the effort! I've memorized about 170 -- 630 more to go!

I've really been enjoying working through the "Sword Study". It has been quite interesting to learn more about 1 Peter -- a book that I haven't studied in depth before.

My sister and I have enjoyed cooking different things for lunch. Today, I made Soft Taco Casserole -- a recipe that my mom made! Recipe coming soon!

I have also been busy with different things such as writing poems [smile], practicing the piano, writing letters and enjoying this beautiful weather we're having.

The Bible Bee | Summer 2011

Life has been busy, very busy

"But with what?" You ask...

The Bible Bee!

{The book we're studying this year is 1 Peter}

This summer Carissa, David and I are a part of "The Bible Bee". We have been assigned the book of I Peter to study. We will study it, learn Greek and Hebrew root words, work through the "Sword Study" and memorize lots of verses throughout the Bible.

{This is my "Week 1" list of verses I'm to memorize!}

We are all in a different age group: Primary, Junior and Senior. We have a list of all the verses that we are to memorize. The verses are broken down in weeks, so that we know exactly what to memorize and when.

{Writing out some of my verses}

Since I have a lot of verses to memorize this summer {800 to be exact!}, I am trying to think of different ideas to help me memorize. Here are two things that I've found very helpful when memorizing:

*Read the verse/passage aloud, slowly to yourself. I find that if I read it over and over, I start to get it memorized pretty easy.

*Write the passage/verse out. It definitely helps to do this, because I have to think about each word that I write down.

{Some of my verses, so I can memorize while cleaning, washing dishes, etc}

Please be praying for me that I wouldn't waste this opportunity, that I wouldn't do it just because I have to, but that I would really learn and profit as we study God's precious Word.

1. What is your favorite color? Hmm...that's a hard one. I'd have to go with green, coral and yellow. But I like a lot of others also.

2. Do you floss? Sometimes, not as much as I should though. It's kind of hard with braces...but, yes, I know I don't have an excuse :)

3. Coffee or hot chocolate? Definitely hot chocolate. I've tasted one spoon-ful of coffee and I didn't like it.

4. Fudge or caramel? FUDGE!

5. Grape juice or apple juice? Apple juice, for sure.

6. Would you rather swim in- a swimming pool, a lake, the ocean, a pond, or a swamp? Let's see...a swimming pool. Doesn't even sound fun to swim in the ocean, pond or lake; and definitely not a swamp.

7. If you could be ANYTHING, what would you be? I'd be myself...other than that, I have no idea

8. If you owned a really big hotel that had 20 floors, would you put the 13th level in? Of course! It would be quite silly if you went from floor 12 to floor 14 :)

9. Would you rather be- a dragon, a bird, or an airplane. An airplane sounds neat, but I guess I'll go with a bird. They're so pretty!

10. If you could have four different kinds of ANY super power, what would they be. Hmm...I'm not sure about my answer for this question. I'm sorry...

AMY GRADUATED FROM HIGH SCHOOL!

She first started off by speaking a little {which, by the way, was *wonderful*}. After that, she played a nice, long song on her violin. It was wonderful, even though I had heard it quite a bit throughout the last few weeks =)

Amy has been such a wonderful friend to me, and I love her a lot! We we like to talk to each other -- especially at night :) She is such a joy to be around! I'm really glad that she's my older sister -- I don't know what I would do without you, Amy!

Our computer is not working right now, so I'm typing this from my dad's laptop. Sorry, but there won't be any pictures this post. While looking at the poll on my blog, I see that I have 12 people wanting me to post about what I've been up to. So that's what this post will be about:

~Reading the Word. Right now, I'm reading in 1 Chronicles; I must admit that it is being kind of difficult to read all the hard names {which I have no idea how to pronounce}. Though, it is being kind of interesting to get names related to the different stories that we've read about.

~Reading "Shadow of the Almighty". It is about the life of Jim Elliot, written by his wife - Elizabeth Elliot. It had been a very thought provoking and convicting read. Most of it is just his journal entries, letters to his family and wife. I might be posting some of his quotes later on.

~Enjoying this beautiful weather. The weather where we live is so pretty! I've spent much time watching and playing with my little sisters and brother. I've also enjoying just sitting outside and enjoying nature, and listening to birds singing.

~Writing short reports. My siblings and I received a set of books from some of our friends; they are about lots of different things in History such as: The Underground Railroad, The Liberty Bell, Ellis Island, The White House etc. I've been enjoying reading them and writing short reports about that time period or thing.

~Photography. Although I'm not the best at taking pictures, I still enjoy doing it. I enjoy capturing the sweet smiles of my lil' sis to blooming flowers in the garden.

~Writing short, fictional stories. Recently, I have been writing some fictional stories. I enjoy thinking of different character, the time period, the plot and then actually writing the story.

~Cooking. While my dad and mom were at the Fellowship Conference, Amy and I were cooking a lot. I'm not saying I didn't enjoy it though :) I enjoyed it thoroughly; some people might enjoy sewing, but I enjoy cooking and baking.

~Playing the piano. My little sister, Carissa, recently got a new piano book from the store. I've really enjoyed learning some of the songs out of it. I also enjoy playing from "Let My Life Be A Light" songbook and "Butterfly Waltz" which is a quiet and peaceful song.

~Memorizing. My family and I are planning on going to the "Scriptorium" this year. If you've never heard of it before {like my family and I hadn't until just recently}, lots of different people get together and quote scripture which they have memorized. My family and I are learning 1 Samuel 21-28. I've got assigned chapter 26 =)

~Writing my first poem -- Ever. Yup, you heard me right; I've only ever written one poem. I enjoyed it a lot, and would like to write more in the near future. Much thanks to my dad and Amy for helping me with it.

This morning, I slept in 40 minutes late.
Now don't get me wrong, I wasn't trying to sleep in that late. I guess my alarm clock went off, and I turned it off without knowing it. To say the least, I wasn't very happy with myself; but nothing could be changed about it now. The deed was already done. I got out of bed, ready to go tell my parents my sad mistake; but then changed my mind. What was the use of that? As I thought about why my alarm clock didn't go off, a verse came to my mind.

"Rejoice Evermore"

I definitely hadn't been rejoicing over getting up late. Instead, I was unhappy that I didn't have as much time to get things done. I need to be rejoicing in every circumstance, whether I think it's good or bad. The verse doesn't go "Rejoice when things are going good"; it says "Rejoice evermore".

Evermore. All the time, we are to rejoice. Whether we are washing dishes, changing baby diapers, cleaning the bathroom, making beds or weeding the garden we are told to rejoice.

We are to rejoice...all the time.

On Ants...

Today, I watched some ants.

What? You're saying. Ants? Yes, I did. They are kind of fascinating if you think about it and if you watch them long enough.

Looking it up, ants can carry up to 20 times their weight {imagine that!}, have two stomachs, their jaws open sideways instead of up and down, and they live for about 45-60 days. I could continue listing things about ants, but that might take awhile.

We have ants at our house, especially beside our trash can. If we throw anything away that might be sweet or sticky, the ants are bound to find it. We see them walking along, carrying a crumb four times as big as itself. I'm amazed at how strong these little insects are. They are constantly, diligently, taking bits of treasure {trash to us} out of our trash can and taking it to who knows where. Talking about ants, that brings a passage of scripture to mind:
"Go to the ant, thou sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise: which having no guide, overseer, or ruler, provideth her meat in the summer, and gathereth her food in the harvest."

Ants, in the Bible, are an example of diligence. We are told to "consider her ways, and be wise". They gather their meat in the summer and food in the harvest. They, unlike the lazy, are diligent concerning different matters. I watched them walking back and forth, carrying heavy loads until it is all safely stored away somewhere. I've seen about 10 of them carry away a grasshopper on a tree. In general, ants are diligent, little insects.

Recently, I've been struggling with laziness. I've found it hard to get up early, exercise when I need to and so on. In the morning, when its feels cold, I like to hit the "snooze" button {whoever made that, that was a terrible invention!} and fall back to sleep until it rings again. Then the cycle repeats itself again; and when I finally drag myself out of bed, I'm wishing I could be back in it again. I don't feel like doing things I know I should, just...because I don't feel like it.

Watching the ants today, made me think on being diligent. Doing things, even if they are hard to do. Thank you, Lord, for the reminder to be diligent.

My Birthday

So, what actually happened on my birthday? You might want to know, or you might not =) But I thought I'd post anyway

First off, I turned 15 at 5:35 in the morning. I wasn't awake then to celebrate that momentous occasion {smile}, but it did still happen. When I woke up in the morning, I ate breakfast with my family; which consisted of Egg Sausage Bake, Fruit Cups and Chocolate Chip Muffins. It was made by my dear mother. Thank you Mommy! After that, I opened presents.

Once I finished opening the presents, I headed off, with Daddy and Daniel, to help the G's. move. I had a very nice time helping them load things up and then taking it over to their new apartment. After they were finished moving, we sat around eating and talking about things from tires to how the Israelites moved out of their camp. We stayed for a little while, and left to go back home. Back home, I was surprised to see a post done by Carissa telling "everyone" in the blog world that it was my birthday. I was also surprised to see 12 comments ready to be published. Thanks everyone for the kind birthday wishes!

In the afternoon, I played baseball outside with Carissa and David. What's funner than playing outside in beautiful weather, laughing with your little sibling, watching the ball sail through the yard, and having an all-the-way-around good time?!

While my mom made our wonderful supper, the rest of my family and I played base-ball together. When you have 6 willing and eager players, it's a lot of fun! We split into teams -- Daddy, David and I against Daniel, Amy and Carissa. When the game ended, we headed inside to eat Mommy's yummy supper she had made.

In the evening my mom, Amy and I went shopping together. Amy got some *really* pretty fabric and a skirt pattern. She's already made it and worn it several times! Maybe you could convince her into showing some pictures if you commented on her blog and asked!

Overall, I had a wonderful day. Thanks everyone for making it so special!

Home-made Bread | The Recipe

Rebekah, over at Heritage of Grace, asked me to share our bread recipe. We have a few different recipes and I decided to share with you all our whole-wheat bread recipe.

Ingredients You Need:

*2 tablespoons yeast

* 2 cups warm water -- if it is on the colder side it will take longer to rise; if it is to hot it will kill the yeast.

* 2 tablespoons sugar

* 1 and 1/2 teaspoons salt

* About 1 tablespoon oil

* 4 cups of white flour

* 2 cups of whole-wheat flour -- you could do three cups white flour and three cups of whole-wheat if you would like

How to Make:

1. Measure out the yeast in the bowl and then pour warm water over it. Then add your sugar and salt.

2. Wait for a minute or so to see if the yeast is "working". If it is moving around and little clumps of yeast rise, that is a good sign.

3. Next add your oil, white flour, and whole-wheat flour.

4. Start the mixer! While it is mixing, grease another bowl. If the dough sticks badly to the mixer, add more flour. It should mix for about 5 minutes (the longer you mix, the finer the bread will be), and when the time is up it should not be very sticky. If it is, add some more flour to it.

5. Take dough out of the mixer and roughly shape it into a ball and place in greased bowl and cover. It needs to sit until it has rised about double its normal size.

6. Once all the way raised, punch down and form into loaves. Sometimes we might form into rolls instead of loaves. So do whatever your family would enjoy.

7. Heat oven to 350 and put the loaves/rolls in for 20 minutes.

Pancakes | The Recipe

What's better than hot pancakes, just off from the griddle, drizzled with maple syrup and topped with whipped topping?

{The pancakes that my sister and I made}

Here's the recipe, just in case you would like to try them out. By the way, they are really good!

Ingredients you need:

*3 eggs
*3 cups flour
*1 and 7/8 cups milk
*1/8 cup vinegar
*3 tablespoons sugar
*6 teaspoons oil
*3 tablespoons baking powder
*1 and 1/2 teaspoons salt

How to Make:

Step 1: In a bowl, mix together your vinegar and milk. Then let sit while you mix up the other ingredients

Step 2: In another bowl, mix up the eggs and oil.

Step 3: In another bowl, mix together the flour, sugar, baking powder and salt.

Step 4: Next, mix all of your different combinations together in a bigger bowl. Don't mix to much though, it should still have a few "clumps" in it once finished being mixed together. (As you have probably noticed, this does make kind of a lot of dirty dishes)

Step 5: Mix them all together very well and add some water, maybe 1/3 of a cup until it gets to the consistency you like them. If you like them thicker, add less water; if you like them thinner add more water!

Step 6: After everything is mixed together, start bakin'! Heat griddle and start pouring your batter on!

Step 7: Enjoy!

What comes in a big, brown package? The Wissmann's music!

About a week ago, a few of my sisters and I ordered some of the Wissmann's music. It arrived in the mail a few days ago! We were all quite excited when we saw a big, brown package in the mailbox :) Since we have gotten it, we have listened to it quite a bit. We got "Let my Life be a Light", the songbook that goes with it, and "This is my Father's World". We have already learned a few of the songs on the piano and learned to harmonize on one of them.

Some Resolutions for 2011

Oh, how time flies! It is already 2011! I still remember what I did January 1st of last year! So I thought I might put some of my resolutions on here.

1. Read straight through the Bible. My family and I have gotten a reading plan and we are all planning on going through it this year. We plan on writing something down each day of what we learned, and then in the evening when our family gathers, we will all share what we have learned.

2. Memorizing 1 and 2 Peter. Although I have been memorizing lately, I would like to be memorizing a lot more. I am starting with 1 and 2 Peter and then maybe moving on to Ephesians.

3. Encourage someone everyday. "But encourage one another day after day, as long as it is still called "Today", so that none of you will be hardened by the deceitfulness of sin." -Hebrews 2:13

4. Journaling every other day. I have not been very consistent in my journaling and would like to make an improvement. I really enjoy looking back through old entries and seeing what I wrote, but I have to write in it, if I want to be able to do that!

5. Spending extra time, each day, in God's Word. It is wonderful to get into a habit of spending time in God's Word each day, but not doing it just because we have to, but because be have a desire to know God more.

6. Reading spiritual books every other month (I am not a big reader, just to let you know). The time that I would use reading other books, I will use reading even more in God's Word.

7. Finish writing out Mark. I am only in chapter 4, but I am making progress. After I am finished writing out Mark, I would like to write out Romans.

A few days ago, my mom and I made this jumper for Ellia. I had a very delightful time, since it was the my first time to use a pattern! I had sewn a few things before like a wall-hanging, blanket and skirt, but this didn't really use a pattern like this.

Tortilla Black Bean Casserole

For all of you out in the blogging-world that likes spicy recipes, this one is for you!

Ingredients:

* 1 good sized onion, chopped up

* 1 and 1/2 cups chopped, green, sweet pepper

* 1 - 14 and 1/2 ounce can of tomatoes, undrained and cut up

* 3/4 cups salsa or picante sauce

* 2 teaspoons ground cumin

* 2 cloves garlic

* 1 and 1/2 cans of black beans

* 12 - 6 inch corn tortillas

* 2 cups of cheddar cheese, shredded.

How to make:

1. In a large skillet combine onion, sweet pepper, undrained tomatoes, salsa, cumin and garlic. Bring to a boil: reduce heat and simmer for 10 minutes. Stir in black beans

2. Spread 1/3 of the bean mixture over the bottom of a 3 quart rectangular baking dish. Top with 1/2 cup of cheese and 6 tortillas, overlapping as needed. Add another 1/3 of the bean mixture: top with 1/2 cup of cheese and 6 tortillas remaining bean mixture. Then add the rest of the bean mixture over the top

3. Bake, covered in a 350 degree oven for 25 to 30 minutes, or until heated through. Sprinkle with remaining 1 cup of cheese. Let stand before serving. If desired, top with tomatoes, lettuce, black olives and sour cream.

My little sister, Faith

Soft giggles. Giant smiles. Light brown hair. Four little teeth. Blue-green eyes. Soft skin. Fair complexion. Chubby cheeks.

These are all things that describe my fun, 1 year old sister - Faith. She is so always so pleasant and fun to be with. She has the sweetest little smiles and giggles and she can melt your heart!

I remember the first night I got to see her. Amy had us all cleaning up the house, but she wouldn't tell us why :) I was in the bathroom cleaning, when I heard a commotion at the front door - there was Daddy, Mommy and Faith! It was so nice meeting my fourth sister. We all thought that they were coming home the following night, it was a pleasant surprise.

I remember days afterward, we still took our ten minute turns with her. She was so tiny and all swaddled up in her blanket. Even Ellia enjoyed holding her.

She is such a fun, bubbly little girl; with a lot of energy! She is always ready to give out a smile. She enjoys playing little games like "Pat-a-cake" "Round and Round the Garden" and "Peek-a-Boo" and many other little games we have made up. She likes to wave to people when they leave, but sometimes she does it when they have already left.

She will soon be walking, because the other day she took her second step! She will stand up and she will walk if someone is holding onto her hand, but hasn't the courage to walk a lot. She is also trying to talk. Sometime it sounds like she says "mama".

I love you Faith! I am thankful that the Lord let you be my little sister. You are such a sweetie!

Chocolate Chip Cookies - The Recipe

Okay, I know you'll are probably thinking why I would be posting about this when I can't even have any, but Daniel wanted to take cookies to give to his classmates, so I volunteered for the job. This recipe is for all you out in the blogging world who aren't doing the sugar-free challenge. Okay, so on to the recipe:)

First, gather your ingredients:

*1/2 cup shortening

* 1/2 cup oil

* 1 cup sugar

* 3/4 cups packed brown sugar

* 2 tsp. vanilla extract (optional)

* 1/2 tsp. salt

* 2 eggs

* 2 cups flour

* 1 tsp. baking soda

* 1 - 12 ounce bag chocolate chips

How to Make:

In a large bowl, beat butter, sugar, brown sugar, vanilla and salt. We have a blender, but it you don't, just use a hand mixer. Once it is finished blending, this is what it should look like:

Add eggs; beat well. It might have a few clumps in it, but that is fine. Once that step is done, this is what it should look like:

Stir in flour and baking soda; beat until well mixed. Once finished, this is how it should look:

Now it is time to add the chocolate:) You don't have to just use chocolate chips, you could use butterscotch and/or white chocolate chips. Sometimes we mix all the three kinds together. So just do whatever your family prefers. Mix in almost the whole package.

Oh, the choices!

Once you have added the chocolate, roll into balls and drop on a cookie sheet. Flatten them with a bottom of a cup. Next, press a couple of M&M into each one.

Preheat the oven to 375 degrees. Leave in oven for about 7 minutes, or until golden brown.
